Jennifer interviewed on Susie Bright show

By Jennifer Lyon Bell

Swooning: Jennifer gets interviewed by her hero, Susie Bright, on her radio talk show "In Bed With Susie Bright": "Revolutionary erotica…What Ms. Bell is doing is a New Wave of cinema that intersects between explicit sex and independent film, and she’s taken the whole idea of what women’s erotica might be, or what might appeal to women, and has brought a kind of poetry into it that is very rare and utterly exhilarating.”

Susie Bright is one of America’s first and best-known sex-positive feminists. Moreover, Jennifer had a bit of a Susie crush from afar. When Jennifer was in college, she swooned to Susie Bright’s Susie Sexpert’s Lesbian Sex World and sneaked off to Good Vibrations in San Francisco to page through Susie’s collected Penthouse porn reviews lovingly collected in a binder in the Video section. Susie was the first person many of us knew who made it OK for feminists to not only watch porn, but to discuss it aloud.

So:

Naturally Jennifer is ecstatic to be on Susie’s audio show, In Bed With Susie Bright, which airs today.

On the weekly show In Bed With Susie Bright, she addresses the sexual politics of the day’s news in the show’s “Front Page,” reviews recent movies and erotic books, answers your sex and relationship questions, and, her “Try This at Home” segment, offers “intimate, frank, and supportive sexual advice to help you feel better about sex and your sexuality – both in bed and in the world.”

The title of the episode is “In Bed with Susie Bright 416: The Women’s Erotica Filmmaker Who Is Turning On-Screen Sex Upside Down”.

Susie interviews Jennifer about (according to the website) “what makes porn on screen so hot, how the actors prepare for sex scenes, and why showing explicit sex isn’t always necessary to make a great erotic film.” Susie also tries out her new I Dare You truth-or-dare-style game on Jennifer, leading to some unplanned revelations. (Jennifer’s defense: “I would tell Susie anything”.)

Airdate: Today, January 8, 2010. The episode will be available permanently, though it does require Audible.com activation.

The best quote: “Revolutionary erotica…What Ms. Bell is doing is a New Wave of cinema that intersects between explicit sex and independent film, and she’s taken the whole idea of what women’s erotica might be, or what might appeal to women, and has brought a kind of poetry into it that is very rare and utterly exhilarating.”
