By Jennifer Lyon Bell

In this excellent 2021 feminist porn summary, Vice calls Blue Artichoke Films the arthouse porn that's "cinematic, intelligent, and extremely well-made."

Vice

Originally founded as an alternative punk magazine, Vice now features lifestyle, arts, culture, and news/politics with an edge.

“A Beginner’s Guide To Watching Feminist Porn”

In the Vice magazine article “A Beginner’s Guide To Watching Feminist Porn,” insiders Ms. Naughty and Paulita Pappel help new viewers navigate the options with ease.

Blue Artichoke Films

Vice calls Blue Artichoke Films the arthouse porn that’s

“cinematic, intelligent, and extremely well-made.”

They continue:

“These explicit films are arousing, but equally interested in the reasons why people have sex and the dynamic behind that, making it as much about the ideas as about hot sex. “

Feminist porn genres

The authors lay out some genres for viewers, which I think are useful:

  1. Ethical pornos that focus on female fantasies
  2. Inclusive queer porn
  3. Arthouse porn – that’s us!
  4. Documentary porn

Blue Artichoke Films is genre-crossing

While it’s true that Blue Artichoke Films fits neatly into the arthouse porn genre, our film Skin.Like.Sun. definitely fits into Vice’s  Documentary porn genre.  So we have a lot of diversity!

Thanks to Vice

Thank you, Vice (and author Shamani Joshi) for devoting so many pages to understanding feminist porn and appreciating Blue Artichoke Films’ role in the film world.
