Headshot screens on VPRO’S “Zomergasten” philosophy program

A brave programming decision. In the 25th year of Dutch cultural program "Zomergasten," special guest and philosopher Simone van Saarloos selects Jennifer Lyon Bell's extremely erotic film "Headshot" to open the program -- at prime time.

Dutch philosopher Simone van Saarloos will show our film “Headshot” as part of her handpicked film program on the esteemed Dutch television show “Zomergasten” on the VPRO. “Zomergasten” is, according to Wikipedia, one of the most well-known programs on Dutch television, now celebrating its 25th year. Guest host Simone van Sarloos, a philosopher, will present Headshot as one of the inspirational films in her 3-hour presentation.

  • DATE: Sunday August 9. 2015
  • TIME: 20.15
  • CHANNEL: VPRO

The Zomergasten episode will also be screened live at Cinema de Uitkijk in Amsterdam starting at 20.15 with champagne. Tickets available from VPRO or De Uitkijk.

I’m curious as to whether the viewing public will feel that Headshot is more like porn, because the film is so focused on Chris’s arousal and orgasm, or whether it will feel more like erotic film to the audience because of the emphasis on Chris’s interior emotional experience, his anxiety and relief, and so on. We will see!

UPDATE: Wow, that was some program. Simone van Saarloos talked about some of the things I like most about Headshot. She was specifically interested in the idea that by creating a “game play” space with strict rules, true creativity and joy can occur within those rules. I agree.
